Learner Audio Use in a Large Extensive Reading Program

Learners in a large extensive reading program at a Japanese university using Xreading had access to audio recordings for each book. Presenters will report on why some learners chose to listen and will characterize the methods learners used to do so. Data from surveys and interviews will also be shared.

    I am a professor at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. I worked in libraries for many years and became interested in extensive reading based on that experience. I have been supporting the Extensive Reading program primarily by working on readers' guidance materials, such as booklists, bibliographies, book talks and displays.

    Hello. My name is Jodie Campbell. I'm from Toronto, Canada, but I live in Kyoto,Japan. I've been teaching ESL/EFL for about 21 years (1 year in Seoul, South Korea, & 20 years in Japan). I'm currently an EFL lecturer at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies in Kyoto, Japan. My areas of interest in ESL/EFL are: Extensive Reading (ER), Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), Vocabulary Acquisition, Motivational Strategies in the Second Language (L2) Classroom, and most recently, Gamification in the L2 Language Classroom, mainly via Kahoot.
